For over 20 years Carlota Aguilar-Long has worked with people that have violated the law. She rapidly became aware that most people with legal problems were experiencing problems in many areas of their lives. In the year 2000 she quit her job as a probation officer to start T-FORE , which stands for Texas First Offenders Rehabilitation Education.
Carlota has demonstrated that rehabilitation education can change lives when the participants are willing. She designs her classes by combining her experience and knowledge while taking into account the participants’ needs. Her classes are interactive with everybody learning from everybody else in the class. She is interested in results and has achieved them. A criminal check on participants that have taken her Family Violence class showed that 92% of them were never arrested again for any reason. Her 8-hour Anger Management class has only been offered for a few months, but she is already seeing the impact on class participants. Instead of blaming the world or circumstances for their problems, by the end of the class most clients recognize their responsibility for their actions and begin to embrace a new perspective and commitment to change. She also teaches the 12 hour DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) State class.
All her classes are offered in both English & Spanish. Holding an MA degree from the University of Texas, and her background more than qualifies Carlota for such an ambitious project.
