JANUARY 15 Mike Hart - TOPIC: The Dharma of Pete the Cat
(Dharma is way, path or teaching.) Pete the Cat is a children's book about a very zen cat and how he deals with the ongoing problem of losing his buttons. It's a jumping off point to discuss the 1st Noble Truth of Buddhism which is "Life is dukkah or suffering." This is not a negative and depressing sort of philosophy. It isn't that life is all pain and suffering and then you die, but that in every life there are going to be major and minor unpleasant things that happen. The rest of the Noble Truths have to do with how to face or handle them. Pete the Cat illustrates how to do this in a light-hearted way. The story, like a lot of children's stories, can be read at two levels. It is a cute, engaging little story that teaches young children the concept of subtraction by counting backwards. It is also a pretty deeply spiritual story illustrating how to deal with difficulties of life like a Buddha.

Welcome to Carmel Temple - A Place of Enlightenment
"CARMEL IS AN ALL FAITH CHURCH THAT EMBRACES DIVERSE BELIEF AND POSITIVE THOUGHT"
Carmel Temple located in South Houston, Texas, is a quiet sanctuary far away from the outer world of seeming chaos. It is a place of enlightenment, peace, healing, teaching, meditation, love, and friendship. Carmel Temple is a loving place made available for all seekers of the Light.
In 1970, Charlotte and Richard Sigler were led by their Inner Guidance, through meditation, to build Carmel Temple, as an instrument of enlightenment, healing, and especially love, which would be brought to many. And it continues to fulfill that mission. A copy of the actual pledge was signed and agreed upon by the Siglers on December 19, 1971.
